Missy Andersen and her One Man Band -June 7, 2019
We’ll be having blues in the barn to help us all slide into the summer season, courtesy of Missy Andersen, who’ll be coming to us from sunny San Diego. Missy was born in Detroit, but spent her formative years in Queens, New York soaking up her parent’s music collection of soul, R&B, blues, jazz, and gospel. By the time she was a teenager she was playing local venues and working as a back-up vocalist. Fast forward and Missy, accompanied by her husband Heine on guitar, has made a name for herself as an outstanding blues and soul performer. We guarantee an entertaining show on this Friday night due to Missy’s infectious energy—she quite literally puts body and soul into her music—and her warm personality and great stage presence. To get a taste of what’s to come, check out Missy singing Stand Up and Dance and note that, even for a radio broadcast, she’s all in on this performance. For a slower number that really showcases Heine’s playing, give Same Old Blues a listen. For those of you that like to dig deep on the artists we bring to the barn, check out this great piece on Missy’s musical journey from the San Diego Troubadour.
Please note that for this summertime show, doors will open at 7:30 PM with music to start at 8:00. Please RSVP to reserve your seat. We’re asking $15 for this show; as always, bring cash to pay at the door. And regulars, you know the drill, BYOB for the communal washtubs and a snack to share if you’d like. We’re hoping for a glorious summer evening, but if the rain comes, we’ll all sing the blues, which always cheers the soul. We hope to see you in June.
