Little Did We Know!
We moved to Wisconsin in 2003 when one of us landed a job in academia. We purchased our home in the Three Springs neighborhood and also bought the adjacent lot with an old barn. The barn was falling down but showed promise, perhaps one day...
During the winter of 2006-2007 we decided it was time to do something with the barn before it deteriorated further. It started with some structural work to one lean-to, followed by a new roof, and then one thing led to another. The barn now has electricity and is heated with a wood-burning stove.
The barn concert series had a serendipitous start. Then word spread among musicians and concert-goers alike. Now, we host approximately 10 shows a year (monthly, minus the warmest months of summer), which is just about right for everyone involved. For our concert attendees, be warned that our on-site “facilities” consist of an honest-to-goodness privy. Our restored prairie also adequately serves the needs of many of our guests (after the sun goes down).
