Kelly McRae - April 29, 2016
After a quiet winter, we’re extremely excited to host Kelley McRae and Matt Castelein for a spring awakening at Three Springs Barn! This folk duo has traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe and we’re tickled to be among their stops on their upcoming Midwest tour. The music of Kelley McRae is quite simply...beautiful. Her singing is incredible and the complementary harmonies and guitar work by her husband Matt make for wonderfully rich music. A review from one of their live shows nicely captures what Kelley brings to a stage:
“With covers of artists like Townes Van Zandt and Steve Earle peppered among lovely originals, McRae’s well-pitched, educated Americana is neither snoozy folk nor country cheese. It’s got no pose or pretense, just purity between her graceful singing and his beautiful guitar work. Together, they’re the triumph of grace and soul over volume and glitter.” -- Orlando Weekly.
As always, the best way to get a sense of a musician is to experience their music. Kelley does beauty and heartache extraordinarily well, as captured by her song simply titled, “Johnny Cash”. The song “Alone” wonderfully displays the close musicianship between Kelley and Matt, as does their song “If You Need Me”, which also seems to suggest that Kelley and Matt will be pretty comfortable in our little setting at Three Springs Barn.
To reserve your seats for this show please email Milesdog@tds.net to RSVP. We’re asking $15 for this show. As always, BYOB for the communal washtubs and a snack to share if you’d like. For this show, doors will open at 7:00 with music to begin at 7:30. The freshly burned prairie will be turning green by this time so this show will feel like spring. We hope you’ll join us.
