Awna Teixeira - December 7, 2013

We first became familiar with Portuguese-Canadian, multi-instrumentalist, Awna Teixeira through her work with the amazing band Po’ Girl. A few years ago we had the chance to see Po’ Girl perform in Madison, Wisconsin and were immediately taken by the talent of the musicians. Among the many instruments (guitar, banjo, ukulele, accordion) that Awna played that evening, we were most struck by how beautifully she played the humble gutbucket bass. Recently, Awna released her first solo album, “Where The Darkness Goes”, which has garnered high praise, including a 5 Star review from No Depression Magazine. To learn more about Awna and that project, check out this video.

To quote another 5 Star review, "It is safe to say there is no one else quite like Awna, with her quirky take on roots music that combines highlonesome ‘hillbilly’ music with folk and probably more than a nod to her Portuguese roots..." American Roots UK 2012. For those of you new to Awna, I encourage you to check out this title-track video from her new album, and this rousing accordion-accompanied homage to her Portuguese family. As a big fan of Awna’s music, it will be a real treat to have her perform an intimate show for our Three Springs Barn crowd. We hope you’ll join us for what is sure to be another memorable evening.

The stove will be stoked (but not too stoked if it’s not too cold...promise), the beer will be cold, and the privy will be warm. (Yes, a heated privy; we aim to please.) Friends and music-lovers, join us for this one-woman show on Saturday, December 7. Doors will open at 7 PM, with music to begin at 7:30 PM. To reserve your seats for this evening, please RSVP to Milesdog@tds.net. We’re asking $15.00 at the door per person, with all proceeds going to the artist. BYOB for the communal beverage tub, and a snack to share if you like.
