The Cactus Blossoms - November 16, 2013

Good golly, folks, The Cactus Blossoms are coming to town! This will be a night of old-timey country music sung by brothers Jack Torrey and Page Burkum, who hail from Minneapolis. How a couple of guys from the Twin Cities cultivated a sound like this, I don’t know…maybe they’ll tell us. What I do know is that I can’t listen to this music without a smile on my face, even when the songs are sad. Jack and Page plan to bring the full band, which should include upright bass, fiddle, and pedal steel, in addition to the brothers on guitar. To give you a taste for what’s in store for us, check out this clip from the 2012 Pickathon sessions in Portland, Oregon.

The Cactus Blossoms’ self-titled first album has received high praise. “An absolute gem—a completely stunning debut album", says Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2. And Craig Shelburne, from Country Music Television said, “... the album I've listened to the most this fall is by The Cactus Blossoms ... It's true and traditional country, folks.” If you still want more information, see this in-depth review of their first album from Hymie’s Vintage Records in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The stove will be stoked, the beer will be cold, the privy will be operational, and the music will be classic country. Friends and music-lovers, join us for this fine evening on Saturday, November 16. Doors will open at 7 PM, with music to begin at 7:30 PM. To reserve your seats for this evening, please RSVP to Milesdog@tds.net. We’re asking $15.00 at the door per person, with all proceeds going to the musicians. BYOB for the communal beverage tub, and a snack to share if you like. Country attire welcome.
